Kurzbeschreibung

Photogrammetric reconstruction is a powerful yet affordable tool to document archeological specimen both on-site as well as in collections and museums. Based on a set of images captured with a regular photographic camera, a detailed 3D model of the specimen can be reconstructed. Moreover, the resulting 3D model can be viewed using a variety of current rendering/visualization techniques providing novel analysis tools to the archeologist.

In this project, we plan to investigate on selected use cases whether and how well the Multi-View Environment (MVE)-based reconstruction and rendering pipeline developed at TU Darmstadt can be integrated into an archeological workflow. Of particular interest is on one hand, whether MVE’s flexibility and robustness regarding the input views allows its usage even under difficult on-site conditions. On the other hand, we would like to investigate how these novel tools can provide additional benefit for archeological research.
